President Obama’s agenda has stalled on Capitol Hill, but GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s plans are likely to get voted on, courtesy of Senate Democrats.
Minority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday he and his troops will offer Mr. Trump’s plans as amendments as the chamber debates bills this year, forcing Republicans to have to embrace or reject the controversial GOP presidential front-runner.
“Since Republican leaders in the House and Senate have pledged loyalty to Trump, the obvious next step is to vote on his policies, including his unconstitutional plan to bar people from entering the United States based on their religion,” Mr. Reid said. “These votes will give all Senators a chance to take a stand on the policy issues dominating the public debate — and Republicans a chance to stand with the front-runner for their nomination.”
It’s an old tactic. Indeed, Republicans regularly force Mr. Reid and his fellow Democrats to vote on Mr. Obama’s budget — an invitation the Democrats handle by voting no, but saying it wasn’t really Mr. Obama’s plans they were voting on.
