In a wide-ranging interview with Variety magazine, Sylvester Stallone said he’s a big fan of “bigger-than-life” Donald Trump.
“I love Donald Trump,” the actor told Variety for its cover story on his Rocky spin-off “Creed.”
“He’s a great Dickensian character. You know what I mean?” he said of the Republican presidential front-runner. “There are certain people like Arnold [Schwarzenegger], Babe Ruth, that are bigger than life. But I don’t know how that translates” — he let out a laugh — “to running the world.”
Despite supporting John McCain’s 2008 presidential run, Mr. Stallone said he doesn’t belong to any political party.
“May the best fighter win,” he said. “I don’t think you can be totally one-sided forever. Then you close your mind to all sorts of possibilities. It’s just, ’Who comes along better at that time for what the planet is going through?’ Right now, it’s pretty confusing on every side.”
Mr. Stallone also revealed that he briefly considered following Mr. Schwarzenegger into politics.
“And five minutes later, I came to my senses,” he said, recalling when the mayor of Philadelphia told him he “could be elected.”
“I said to my wife, ’What do you think?’” Mr. Stallone recounted. “She said, ’Are you crazy? He’s just being nice. You’re not going to be elected. You don’t have that insatiable need to be embraced by people.’”
The 69-year-old actor was awarded the Golden Globe Sunday night for best supporting actor in “Creed.” The last time he was on the Golden Globes stage was when he was accepting the award for best screenplay for “Rocky” in 1977, Just Jared reported.
