Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said Tuesday that 2016 GOP presidential rival Donald Trump doesn’t handle losing very well, a day after Mr. Trump repeated a vulgar term a supporter used to describe Mr. Cruz at a campaign rally.
“Nothing Donald says surprises anyone,” Mr. Cruz told reporters in New Hampshire. “Donald does not handle losing very well. He didn’t like that he lost in Iowa, and his response often is to simply yell and insult and engage in profanity.”
“My approach is not to respond in kind,” said Mr. Cruz, who finished first in the Iowa caucuses ahead of Mr. Trump, who was second. “From the beginning of the campaign, when he and others have chosen to insult, chosen to go to the gutter … I don’t respond in kind.”
At a rally Monday evening, Mr. Trump jokingly reprimanded a supporter who had used a vulgar term to describe Mr. Cruz.
“She said — I never expect to hear that from you again — she said he’s a p—-y. That’s terrible,” Mr. Trump said.
