Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday that 2016 GOP presidential rival Donald Trump isn’t as good as throwing insults in person

“Getting in the line of fire of Donald Trump has its downsides,” Mr. Bush said on “Fox and Friends.” “He’s pretty good at just crushing you over Twitter, but not in person. You know, it’s funny — in person, he’s a little different.”

“He’s not as good as insulting you in person because bullies don’t do that as well,” he said. “But they can do it really well when they’re sitting in their little suite, or whatever it is.”

On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Monday, Mr. Trump had described Mr. Bush as “a stiff you wouldn’t hire in private enterprise.”

“I’m not going to send my resume to the Donald,” Mr. Bush said Tuesday. “But I was governor of the state of Florida, where I got a chance to lead a state, and we cut the government workforce by 11 percent, and people’s income grew.”

“Donald, meanwhile, was bankrupting four companies and making a lot of money, but a lot of other people suffered,” he said. “So I’ll take that leadership skill and compare it to his any day of the week.”

Mr. Bush has been in a crowded group behind Mr. Trump in recent polls on New Hampshire.

The former governor said he’s enjoyed “the New Hampshire experience.”

Mr. Bush said he doesn’t think Mr. Trump is a conservative and that he doesn’t think “you’re going to win by insulting your way to the presidency.”
