LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada’s largest newspaper is endorsing Sen. Marco Rubio for Nevada’s Republican caucus.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal editorial board said in an editorial published Friday that Rubio is concerned about key issues for Nevada, including federal land use policies and immigration.
The Review-Journal said it did not consider endorsing front-runner Donald Trump because he could not meet with the editorial board, a requirement for consideration.
The newspaper also noted that the 44-year-old Rubio lived in Las Vegas for several years as the child of immigrants who worked in the hotel industry.
The board said it met with the Florida senator before the newspaper was purchased by the family of billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, and the family has detached itself from the decision-making process.
Nevada will hold its Republican caucus on Feb. 23.
