Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Friday he’s excited that his brother, former President George W. Bush, will be campaigning for him in South Carolina, saying he’s not going to abandon who he is.

“Well, the intention was always to do it nearing the end,” Mr. Bush, the 2016 presidential candidate, said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “But he’s going to campaign for me in South Carolina. I’m excited about that.”

“The strategy is to not abandon who I am,” he said. “I’m proud to be a Bush. It is who I am, but also that I need to share my life experience, my leadership skills, my ideas to lift people out of poverty, my ideas to increase security for our country and to allow the middle class to get a pay raise for the first time in a decade.”

“So I think it’s the right balance,” he said.

Mr. Bush’s mother, former first lady Barbara Bush, appeared with the former Florida governor in New Hampshire Thursday.

The former president also recently cut an ad for Right to Rise USA, the super PAC supporting his brother’s presidential bid.

“Jeb will unite our country,” he says in the ad, which was first reported by Politico. “He knows how to bring the world together against terror, and he knows when tough measures must be taken.”

The former Florida governor said he didn’t know the ad was going on because he can’t coordinate with the super PAC.
