EXETER, N.H. — The founders of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream had cold words for Hillary Clinton on Friday, mocking the Democratic presidential candidate at a campaign rally here for Sen. Bernard Sanders.
Speaking just before Mr. Sanders took the stage, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield gave an enthusiastic endorsement of the Vermont senator. But they also mocked Mrs. Clinton and said she’s not a true progressive.
“Finally, a presidential candidate who is determined to meet the needs of everyday Americans and fund them in a fiscally responsible way. Finally, a candidate worth voting for,” Mr. Cohen told a crowd here. “The man who has even made Hillary Clinton want to be a progressive.”
Mr. Sanders and Mrs. Clinton have clashed this week over their progressive credentials. Mr. Sanders has cast his opponent as a moderate who only recently has embraced true progressive positions, while Mrs. Clinton has charged that Mr. Sanders’ proposals — such as universal health care — aren’t realistic.
