New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Thursday that people should move on from Iowa, amid charges from 2016 GOP rival Donald Trump that Sen. Ted Cruz “stole” a win the state on Monday.
“I don’t think it ever helps after you lose an election to ask for a do-over,” Mr. Christie said on “Fox and Friends.” “I’ve been through a lot of them. I’ve been through a number of ’em where they’re very rough and tumble. What you do is you move on to the next one, and you forget the last one.”
Mr. Trump has called for Mr. Cruz to be disqualified, or for there to be a re-vote in Iowa. Mr. Trump has come to the defense of retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who said Cruz supporters started circulating false rumors on Monday that Mr. Carson was about to drop out of the race, and that those rumors cost him votes.
Mr. Cruz apologized to Mr. Carson for the incident.
“I’m focused on New Hampshire in five days,” Mr. Christie said. “And it’s kind of amazing to me that people are still talking about an election that’s already been decided. It’s over. Ted Cruz won the election. Donald Trump lost it. Marco Rubio came in his expected third.”
“There’s nothing that happened in Iowa that’s changed this race one bit,” he said. “The folks in New Hampshire really don’t care about what happened in Iowa, and they’re moving on to their own election next Tuesday.”
