GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump received the endorsement Wednesday from Rep. Chris Collins, making the Republican the first member of Congress to throw his support behind the billionaire, the Buffalo News reported.
Mr. Collins had previously endorsed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who dropped out of the race following the South Carolina primary, providing Mr. Trump some ammunition for his argument that voters will indeed come his way as the field winnows.
“Donald Trump has clearly demonstrated that he has both the guts and the fortitude to return our nation’s jobs stolen by China, take on our enemies like ISIS, Iran, North Korea and Russia, and most importantly, reestablish the opportunity for our children and grandchildren to attain the American Dream,” Mr. Collins said in a statement to The Buffalo News. “That is why I am proud to endorse him as the next President of the United States.”
Mr. Trump has rattled off three wins in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Tuesday in Nevada, where he won by a landslide, giving him a boost of momentum heading into the Super Tuesday contests next week.
