Hispanic Republicans leaders are meeting later this week to consider endorsing Sen. Marco Rubio’s presidential bid in the 2016 race.

Alfonso Aguilar, of the Latino Partnership for Conservative Principles, told The Washington Times Tuesday that Hispanic leaders plan to meet Friday in Houston and later hold a press conference that could include a Rubio endorsement.

Comprised of about two dozen Hispanic leaders, the group previously has come out against businessman Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas over their stances on immigration.

Mr. Aguilar has already endorsed the Florida senator, who helped co-author a 2013 immigration bill that would have provided a quick path to legal status, and eventual citizenship for most illegal immigrants.

Mr. Rubio has since said that the American public would only be willing to consider legalizing illegal immigrants once it is convinced the border is secured.
