OPINION:
I am perplexed as to how any Christian could support Donald Trump, who attacks anyone with the courage to criticize him, uses offensive language and has stated that his supporters are so loyal, he could shoot somebody on 5th Avenue in New York City and still not lose voters. I am appalled that 30 percent of evangelical voters in South Carolina voted for him, and I ask them to justify why they are supporting a person whose actions are so unchristian.
Last month I watched video of Mr. Trump speaking at Liberty University and say “two Corinthians” instead of “Second Corinthians.” The Rev. Jerry Falwell, when asked about this mistake, shrugged it off as insignificant. Mr. Trump obviously did not care to rehearse his speech in front of a single Christian; if he had, he or she would have easily caught the error.
Matthew 7:15 provides a warning to all Christians: “Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits.” My hope is that Christians in other Republican-primary states vote for the candidate that best represents Jesus’ values, not New York values.
