Actor and former boy band member Donnie Wahlberg officially endorsed Marco Rubio for president Sunday ahead of the Nevada Republican caucuses.

“Even though we do not see eye to eye on every issue, I know that Marco is a man of principle who can be trusted to keep us safe and give each and every one of us a shot at the American Dream,” said Mr. Wahlberg, older brother of actor Mark Wahlberg and founding member of New Kids on the Block, in a statement distributed by the Rubio campaign.

He referenced Mr. Rubio’s background and said the candidate will be able to unite the country, The Hill reported.

“Marco is a humble man who has not forgotten his roots, and he will fight to make sure that where you come from does not determine how far you can go. We need a leader like Marco to inspire a new Republican party and unite our nation, and I am proud to support him for President.”

Mr. Wahlberg, 46, made his opinion on Mr. Rubio known on Twitter during CNN’s Republican town hall a few days earlier, saying the junior Florida senator was “the only candidate that can, and will, beat” front-runner Donald Trump, CNN reported.
