A spokesman for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign said Tuesday there’s no doubt they’re trailing slightly in New Hampshire, but said Mrs. Clinton is going to “work her heart out” over the next week.
“Look, there’s no doubt that we’re slightly behind in New Hampshire right now,” Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon said on MSNBC. “New Hampshire historically is favorable to sons of New England.”
“A lot can happen in a week, and we have a lot of momentum coming out of last night’s results in Iowa, so she is going to work her heart out over the course of the next seven days,” Mr. Fallon said. “She’s here doing events today. She came overnight, straight from Iowa to here. She’s going to be in Nashua this morning, and we are going to work to earn it.”
Mrs. Clinton’s campaign claimed victory in Iowa early Tuesday after she finished the night with a razor-thin edge over Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont. Mr. Sanders holds close to a 20-point lead over Mrs. Clinton in the latest RealClearPolitics average on New Hampshire.
“New Hampshire is a state that is near and dear to the Clintons’ heart — it made Bill Clinton the comeback kid in 1992, it helped her come back after a setback in Iowa in 2008, and so we are going to work to earn the support of New Hampshire voters here,” Mr. Fallon said.
