GOP Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska, who has emerged as a leading critic of Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump in recent weeks, is showing he’s well aware that fans of Mr. Trump might not exactly be enamored with him.

“I’m Ben Sasse, I’m a U.S. Senator from Nebraska, and I’m not totally convinced that Donald Trump would be the best president in all of U.S. history,” Mr. Sasse, first elected in 2014, says in a video produced by Independent Journal Review.

Mr. Sasse traveled to Iowa before the first-in-the-nation caucuses asking voters not to support Mr. Trump and also launched a series of tweets aimed at the billionaire businessman last month.

The freshman senator proceeded to read some messages back from social media users in the video.

“@Ben Sasse is a joke, looking for a punchline! What a maroon!” read one.

“@BenSasse can anyone believe this bozo is a US senator,” read another.

“My brother says this every week,” Mr. Sasse noted.

“Shut up LOSER Sasse how much you get for votes this year so far dead beat! Nobody believe’s anything you say,” read another.

For his part, Mr. Trump has said on Twitter that Mr. Sasse “looks more like a gym rat than a U.S. Senator.”

“How the hell did he ever get elected?” Mr. Trump asked last month.
