John Poindexter, Texas ranch owner, clarifies remarks on Antonin Scalia’s death

The owner of the Texas ranch where U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead this weekend clarified his remarks on how he found Justice Scalia’s body to squash rumors that he was murdered.

John Poindexter, the ranch owner, told “CBS This Morning” that he found Justice Scalia with a pillow “over his head, not over his face as some have been saying. The pillow was against the headboard.”

But many conspiracy theorists and even GOP front-runner Donald Trump have seized on rumors of foul play in the justice’s death.

For the second time this week, Mr. Trump on Tuesday voiced skepticism about Justice Scalia’s death.

“They say they found a pillow on his face, which is a pretty unusual place to find a pillow,” Mr. Trump said during an interview on Michael Savage’s radio show “The Savage Nation.”

Mr. Savage penned an op-ed earlier this week making the case that Justice Scalia could have been murdered.

The suggestion that the conservative justice may have been murdered took hold in part because a state judge declared Justice Scalia dead over the phone — something that is allowed by Texas state law, a local ABC affiliate reported.

Justice Scalia’s family did not request an autopsy for the 79-year-old, who had a history of chronic health problems.

Mr. Poindexter had told a local newspaper that he found Justice Scalia with a “pillow over his head.”

Judge Cinderela Guevara said investigators found no signs of foul play or struggle. She added Justice Scalia’s personal physician believed “the death was due to natural causes.”
