D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser will visit Cuba this weekend for a five-day exploratory mission to see how the District could benefit from recently loosened U.S. restrictions on trade with and commercial travel to the communist-run island nation.
“From China to Cuba — and everywhere in between — these missions are important because they can create jobs for our residents and improve our local economies,” Ms. Bowser said. “I look forward to joining my fellow regional leaders to Cuba as we explore investment opportunities and position ourselves for greater economic success.”
The Cuba trip is Ms. Bowser’s second excursion abroad trip in the last four months. In November, she traveled to China with 16 local business leaders to explore attracting Chinese investors to the District.
Ms. Bowser will be joined in Cuba by members of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, as well as Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Maurice Jones.
