For seven long years, the United States military has been subjected, as has the country it protects, to a series of assaults on its strength, character and stature – not at the hands of foreign foes, but at the direction of President Barack Obama.
The men and women of our armed forces respect the fact that they are subject to civilian authority and have acceded as they have witnessed their services being hollowed out and their enemies emboldened.
But they swear an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic.” And without fanfare, a representative of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has written Congress that the U.S. military will not violate the law barring the transfer here of jihadists from Guantanamo Bay if ordered to do so by President Obama.
Hoo-ha!
