A Republican National Committee member in Nevada tweeted Monday that GOP presidential candidates Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz “are ineligible.”
“Rubio and Cruz are ineligible,” Diana Orrock wrote, linking to an article from conservative activist Devvy Kidd, Talking Points Memo first reported.
In her post, Ms. Kidd argued that Sen. Rubio is ineligible because neither of his parents were U.S. citizens at the time of his birth. She also said that despite Sen. Cruz being born to an American mother, his father wasn’t a U.S. citizen at the time of his birth in Calgary, Alberta, which makes him ineligible.
Ms. Orrock, who is also running to represent Carson City in the state assembly, later retweeted a Twitter user who called Mr. Rubio an “anchor baby.”
Ms. Orrock’s Twitter account clearly portrays her as a supporter of Donald Trump, TPM noted.
In January, she told The Daily Beast that she was throwing her support behind the billionaire, “because he appreciates my endorsement.”
Mr. Trump threatened Monday to sue Mr. Cruz over his eligibility to be president if he does not apologize and retract alleged “lies” about Mr. Trump’s positions on issues such as abortion and gun rights. Mr. Trump has called on the RNC to intervene in his dispute with the Texas senator, Fox News reported.
