President Obama will visit Vietnam for the first time in May, the White House said late Monday.
Mr. Obama told Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung that he’ll visit the communist-ruled country when he travels to Japan for the annual G-7 summit this spring. The two leaders conferred Monday during a meeting of southeast Asian leaders hosted by Mr. Obama at the Sunnylands retreat in southern California.
They also discussed the Trans-Pacific Partnership free-trade deal, maritime security, and human rights, the White House said.
