Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina will endorse Marco Rubio for president on Tuesday, according to multiple news outlets, giving the Floridian a major boost in the third state to weigh in on the White House race.

Alex Isenstadt on Politico first reported the endorsement during Monday night’s Iowa caucuses, citing “3 sources.” CNN later reported similarly.

Mr. Scott is the first black Republican to serve in the U.S. Senate from a former Confederate state since Reconstruction, and his state holds the first-in-the-South primary on Feb. 20.

Make no mistake: This is a big endorsement for Rubio. Scott is very popular in South Carolina,” CNN reported. “Scott held town halls with every candidate in the lead-up to the primaries, and  maintained an unbiased position on all of them.”
