Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said it wasn’t a tough decision to endorse GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, saying she wants Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas to keep up the fight in the U.S. Senate.
“It wasn’t tough,” Mrs. Palin said on NBC’s “Today” show. “I had supported Ted Cruz in his run for Senate there out in Texas, and when I endorsed him, he was barely a blip on the radar screen down there in terms of in the polls and what people were perceiving, and then at the last minute being able to get in there and kind of hopefully we helped, added some momentum to his campaign.”
Mrs. Palin said she supports Mr. Cruz “being there in the Senate to be a fighter for the American people, for our will.”
“I want to keep him in the Senate, and I want Donald Trump to be our president,” she said.
Mr. Cruz last month said he wouldn’t be in the U.S. Senate without Mrs. Palin’s support, and he said he would remain a fan of the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee regardless of what she decided to do in the 2016 presidential race.
