Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is nearing 40 percent support in New Hampshire, according to a poll released Monday that puts him well ahead of his 2016 GOP rivals in the Granite State.
Mr. Trump had the support of 38 percent of likely GOP primary voters in the state, with Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas in second place at 12 percent, according to the University of Massachusetts Lowell/7News poll.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich were next at 9 percent apiece, followed by Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida at 8 percent and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 7 percent.
Mr. Trump had a 31-point advantage over Mr. Cruz among men and a 17-point advantage among women.
Mr. Trump’s support did vary somewhat based on respondents’ education levels. He was at 46 percent support among people with a high school diploma or less, 42 percent among people who finished some college, 32 percent among those with a college degree, and 18 percent among those with a post-graduate degree.
Mr. Kasich actually performed best among people with a postgraduate degree, at 19 percent.
Mr. Trump also led the way with 41 percent support among people identified as not being very religious, while Mr. Cruz had a 3-point edge over Mr. Trump among “very religious” voters.
