LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The University of Louisville says nearly 1,000 students are expected to take part in its winter commencement at the KFC Yum! Center.
UofL’s acting president, Neville Pinto, will preside at the Dec. 15 event. Graduate nursing student Karina Strange will be the student speaker.
The university says nearly 1,300 students will graduate this semester and 975 are expected to take part in the event.
Officials say an honorary degree will be awarded to David Williams, an activist, writer and historian.
He has spent more than three decades gathering and preserving archival materials related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender studies. He established the Williams-Nichols Collection in Ekstrom Library in 1994.
Williams will receive the honorary degree during the doctoral hooding ceremony, hosted by the School of Interdisciplinary and Graduate Studies.
