CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Former senator and Democratic nominee for vice president John Edwards has listed his North Carolina estate on the market for $6.9 million.
The Wall Street Journal (https://on.wsj.com/2ggoJB3) reported Wednesday that the gated estate was built by Mr. Edwards and his late wife Elizabeth on about 102 acres near the Chapel Hill church where the two married.
Listing agent Gilliam Kittrell says the home is about 26,000 square feet and includes a full-size basketball court, an exercise room and a covered, heated swimming pool.
The family bought the land for $1.32 million in 2004 and moved into the house in 2006. Elizabeth Edwards died of breast cancer in 2010.
Kittrell says Edwards is selling because of the lengthy commute to Raleigh, where he works at a law firm he launched.
