Fresh off her election loss, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a plea for Congress to find a way to crack down on “fake news,” which she said Thursday is a threat to democracy.
While not specifically blaming bogus stories for contributing to her loss, Mrs. Clinton said there’s an “epidemic of malicious fake news.”
“It’s now clear that so-called fake news can have real-world consequences,” she said, turning a ceremony to honor retiring Democratic Sen. Harry Reid into a checklist of Democratic political goals.
Democrats’ 2016 presidential nominee also joked about her return to the Capitol, where she served eight years as a senator, as the loser of the election.
“This is not exactly the speech at the Capitol I hoped to be giving after the election,” she said.
