PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The Portland Water District plans to discuss a bid to ban graffiti on a so-called graffiti wall at the East End Wastewater Treatment Facility.
The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2hnrgpi ) the district’s Board of Trustees is scheduled to discuss the issue at a workshop on Monday night.
Bayside resident Jay York had asked the board at its Nov. 28 meeting to consider banning graffiti painting on the wall and converting it to a mural.
York says he’s speaking for East End property owners and business owners who believe the graffiti wall encourages graffiti painting in other places where it’s not allowed.
A water district spokeswoman says the city approached the district about 15 years ago and asked if it would allow the wall to be used by graffiti artists.
