DERRY, N.H. (AP) - The owners of a Derry, New Hampshire, mobile home park say at least 10 tenants who receive federal assistance to pay rent are being forced to move amid a crackdown on mobile homes without tie-downs.

Robin Defeo tells The Eagle-Tribune (https://bit.ly/2gLX2iJ ) she was forced to move away from Whispering Pines Mobile Home Village.

The 52-year-old licensed nursing assistant says she was told in September that all Section 8 tenants must have tie-downs attached to their mobile homes.

Federal housing officials say the anchoring straps secure mobile homes and protect them during major storms.

Defeo says installing tie-downs costs about $1,200 and that the park wouldn’t buy them. Park co-owner Donna Ball says it’s become cost-prohibitive to buy and install them.

State and federal housing officials say park owners are required to cover the installation of tie-downs.
