PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The Portland City Council has approved a new contract with the city’s largest union that will increase wages by $1.1 million over the next three years.

The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2g4RCeB ) the agreement with roughly 500 workers in the City Employee Benefits Association was approved Monday and provides annual increases of 2 percent.

CEBA represents most permanent employees, except for firefighters and police officers.

The contract with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1373 is set to expire on June 30, 2019.

The city’s current budget authorizes 1,283 employees with a municipal payroll of $72.5 million.
