SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - The red neon “Syracuse” sign that has welcomed travelers to Hancock International Airport since 1962 is being replaced with a modern LED-lighted sign.
The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority says the old sign cost up to $30,000 every two years to maintain. Now the authority is spending about that much to remove the old sign and replace it with a more efficient one that’s an exact replica.
Travelers will still be able to see the iconic red script of the vintage Syracuse sign when it’s displayed as a museum piece inside the terminal.
