MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University Hospitals and Local 814 of the Laborers International Union of North America have reached a tentative agreement, meaning employees will continue working after the first of the year.

Media outlets report WVU Hospitals and Local 814 negotiated on Dec. 26 and reached a tentative Collective Bargaining Agreement. According to a statement from WVU Hospitals, a vote will be taken next week to approve the agreement.

In the meantime, the current contract will be extended beyond the Jan. 1 expiration. The union has rescinded a strike notice that was issued on Dec. 22.

Union leader Chris Cordwell previously told the Dominion Post that the union was unhappy with a proposal by WVU Hospitals that included benefit cuts and increases in insurance premiums and deductables.

Local 814 represents 950 service workers at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.
