Donald Trump aide Kellyanne Conway said she’s “amused” by the resistance she’s faced trying to find a private school for her children in Washington, D.C.
The New York Post reported Wednesday that Mrs. Conway, the president-elect’s former campaign manager, “divulged her fears” about not finding a suitable D.C. school to other parents at the Elisabeth Morrow School in Englewood, New Jersey.
Her twins, George and Claudia, performed a concert there Thursday night with other students, including Alicia Keys’ goddaughter.
“But after the concert, all the parents converged on Kellyanne, congratulating and sucking up to her,” a source told the Post. “Kellyanne is asking everyone with connections to D.C. schools for help.”
The mother of four was with her children Wednesday looking at schools in the nation’s capital, where they plan to move once Mr. Trump takes office.
“I would not characterize myself as ’worried’ so much as amused by the silence and sighs on the other end of the phone when friends and allies have made preliminary inquiries on our behalf,” Mrs. Conway told the Post.
D.C. private schools preach “diversity” and “open-mindedness,” she said, but “for some, there is a comfort in sameness.”
Mrs. Conway said that despite some of the trouble she’s faced, she’s received “a flood” of support from people on both sides of the aisle.
Asked if she was also house-hunting in the D.C. area, Mrs. Conway told the Post: “First things first.”
Earlier this month, Mrs. Conway told TMZ that she was anticipating some pushback from D.C. schools.
“We’ll see if the Trump people are welcome in all those private schools down in Washington D.C.,” she told the outlet.
