CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - A city in Hampton Roads will consider next year whether to approve construction of a juvenile detention center.

The Virginian-Pilot reports (https://bit.ly/2htatRq) that the proposed project in Chesapeake would have two separate facilities. One would be operated by the state and house youths from the region. And the other would be run by the city.

Chesapeake’s city council will vote next year on whether to build the project on South Military Highway. Residents have been asked to give their input at public meetings scheduled in January and February.

The project is estimated to cost $40 million and would open by 2020.
