HELENA, Mont. (AP) - The Montana Supreme Court is now able to accept electronically filed documents from attorneys in civil cases, as well as criminal ones.

Clerk of Court Ed Smith said Thursday the court had been able to accept electronic filings in criminal cases and others initiated by prosecutors, but a recent software upgrade means the clerk can take electronic filings in civil cases, as well.

Smith says the new system will by more efficient and save money for attorneys across the state.

The court’s e-filing system is not yet available to self-represented litigants.
