Shortly after Carrie Fisher’s death on Tuesday, “Star Wars” aficionados made a makeshift memorial on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the actress who played Princess Leia Organa in the original sci-fi/adventure trilogy.
Devoted fans placed lettering on a blank star on the famous sidewalk, reading “Carrie Fisher. May the Force be with you always. Hope.”
“By Wednesday afternoon, a throng of people, made up of mostly tourists but also some residents, were paying more attention to that space than any other in that area,” The Hollywood Reporter noted Wednesday. “After a while, street performers began to make their way there to work near the large group.”
Fisher died Tuesday after being hospitalized over the Christmas holiday for a heart attack. She was 60.
“I’m shocked she doesn’t already have a star,” a fan of Fisher’s from Santa Barbara told THR. “But I’m not at all surprised a fan made one for her.”
“Star Wars” co-stars Harrison Ford and Alec Guinness were awarded their places on the famous sidewalk in 2003 and 1960, respectively, according to the Walk of Fame website. Neither Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, nor James Earl Jones, the iconic voice of the villainous Darth Vader, yet has a star on the Walk of Fame.
