SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Rocky Mountain Power has agreed to pay more than $15,000 in penalties to state regulators in connection to the release of coal ash into the Price River last summer.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2ht5xPK ) that according to a proposed settlement that is awaiting approval by the Division of Water Quality, Rocky Mountain Power has agreed to pay the division a $13,000 penalty for the spill and $2,000 to reimburse the state for expenses accrued while responding to the incident.

An estimated 2,370 cubic yards of coal ash, which contained almost 14 pounds of arsenic and 36 pounds of lead, washed into the Price River on Aug. 4 during a flash flood.

Rocky Mountain Power spokesman Paul Murphy says the utility is committed to monitoring the river in the future.
