PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo is hosting the state’s annual menorah lighting to celebrate Hanukkah.

The event is planned for 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the State House.

Raimondo’s husband, Andy Moffit, also plans to participate.

The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah began Saturday night and lasts for eight days.

The Democratic governor says the holiday season is a time to come together and look to a bright and peaceful future with hope and optimism.

She’s encouraging people to try to make the season a little less lonely and a little more joyful for those in need.
