CHICAGO (AP) - Dozens of Cook County Sheriff’s deputies are under investigation for possibly falsifying the number of hours they worked on their time cards.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports (https://bit.ly/2i9hf2P ) that Sheriff Tom Dart’s chief policy officer confirmed 60 deputies are targets of an investigation into “alleged attendance fraud.”

Cara Smith says the deputies being investigated include supervisors. She says they work in the Cook County court system.

Smith says the investigation began several months ago and should be complete within six weeks.

Tamara Cummings is a lawyer for the union that represents the deputies. She said she hasn’t received any specific allegations but she is aware an investigation is being conducted.
