JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A $2,500 reward is being offered after a puppy was found so severely beaten that the animal had to be euthanized.

In Defense of Animals’ Justice for Animals campaign director Dolly Stanley tells The Clarion-Ledger (https://on.thec-l.com/2iqFCXl) that the female puppy was discovered Dec. 15 with blunt force trauma to the head.

The breed of the dog is unknown, but Stanley estimated her age to be between 4 and 6 months.

The puppy was taken to the veterinarian. Stanley says the injuries were “consistent with those that would likely be sustained from a bashing with a baseball bat or other smooth, heavy object.”

The dog was euthanized Thursday.

In Defense of Animals is offering the reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Thursday’s death.
