OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Oxford has given a second “no” to a developer who wants to build a Hyatt Hotel in the Oxford Commons commercial subdivision.

That area already holds two hotels, with a third under construction.

City Attorney Pope Mallette tells The Oxford Eagle (https://bit.ly/2haaTvC ) that he expects developer Thomas Crowson either to ask for a zoning variance or go to Lafayette County Chancery Court.

The Board of Alderman denied Crowson’s request to combine two big lots because of objections by attorneys who have offices in Oxford Commons. State law gives people who already own lots in a commercial subdivision some veto power over changes to the division of lots.
