BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - The Bureau of Land Management needs volunteers to help count bald eagles throughout the Powder River Basin next month.

The Billings Gazette (https://bit.ly/2idyOfl ) reports the national survey effort begins Jan. 14. Participants will count eagles along standard routes to chart population trends.

Ninety volunteers participated in last year’s survey, which found 547 eagles throughout the Powder River Basin. Of those, 363 were bald eagles.

Volunteers will receive training on methodology before they set out on the count.
