NASHUA, N.H. (AP) - A fire caused extensive damage to the attic and roof of family’s home in Nashua, but quick thinking by firefighters saved their Christmas presents.

Nashua Fire Rescue officials say firefighters found the attic burning when they arrived around 11 a.m. Saturday. Crews cut a ventilation hole in the roof, limiting the spread of the fire, and covered the family’s furnishings and other belongings with tarps, including the gifts.

The occupants evacuated on their own. No one was injured.

Fire officials say the house sustained heat, smoke and fire damage, but the gifts were protected “to the relief of the homeowners.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
