SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A businessman’s $4 million donation will help build a Salt Lake City women’s shelter and resource center that will be named after his mother.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2ie50PZ) 79-year-old Pat King said Geraldine E. King raised him and his six siblings on public assistance.
He said the planned facility is something his mother would have loved to be part of.
She was 97 years old when she died in April.
Utah, Salt Lake County, the city and groups in the public and private sector are working together to build four shelters with 150 beds each.
Lawmakers have slated $9.2 million for the facilities and programs.
Supporters want the state to fund the same amount in 2017 and 2018.
The $27 million would mostly go toward facilities.
