President-elect Donald Trump is scheduled to kick off the holiday weekend Friday with a round of golf with Tiger Woods at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, according to a report in Golf Digest.
Mr. Trump will be considered the best-ever golfer to occupy the White House when he takes office Jan. 20, according to the magazine, but it remained to be seen how he’ll compete against a 14-time major champion.
The president-elect, who is listed as a 2.8 handicap in Golf Digest’s most recent rankings of the best golfers in Washington, D.C., has said that he won’t be playing too much golf once he takes office because of the demands of the job. But the magazine cited sources close to Mr. Trump who say his love of the game likely will prompt occasional outings as a forum for informal meetings.
Mr. Woods has hit the links will President Obama and former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton.
He first golfed with Mr. Obama in 2013 at the Floridian in Palm City, Florida. They played the same course again last year.
Mr. Obama has weathered criticism for his frequent golf outings as president, playing more than 300 rounds while in office. He has worked his way down to a 13 handicap, according to the magazine.
The Trump-Woods outing is taking place while the president-elect is spending time at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach. He has been conducting transition meetings at the landmark estate and will spend the Christmas holiday there with his family.
Mr. Trump and Mr. Woods are expected to play with two members of Trump International Golf Club, according to the magazine, which cited sources close to the president-elect.
Neither Mr. Trump nor Mr. Woods publicized the outing.
