PINEVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky State Police troopers have arrested a Bell County deputy jailer on allegations he was smuggling contraband to inmates.

Trooper Shane Jacobs said 34-year-old Richard Hoskins was arrested Thursday on five counts of official misconduct and one count of promoting contraband.

Hoskins worked as a deputy at the Bell County Detention Center, where police allege he took money from inmates in exchange for bringing them unspecified contraband.

He was booked Thursday evening into the same jail where he had worked. State police investigators say he worked there only several months, from September until his employment was terminated Tuesday.

Detectives are continuing to investigate.
