CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming Association of Municipalities is calling on the state to stop collecting $5.8 million in administrative fees from cities.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2hdvlzj ) that the state charges a 1 percent fee when it processes local sales tax revenue, and that fee is placed in the state’s general fund.

Municipalities Association Deputy Director Laurie Heath said last week that Wyoming Department of Revenue Director Dan Noble said he would have no objection to ending the administrative fee since it doesn’t help fund his office’s work processing local tax receipts.

Noble says he would have no objection if the Legislature decided to terminate the fee.

Heath says the Wyoming Association of Municipalities has not yet drafted a bill for the Legislature, but that one is coming soon.
