SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Salt Lake City man charged with trying to hang his girlfriend with a rope from a highway overpass faces up to life in prison.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2htjQRQ ) Juan Echeveste Alba had pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted murder and kidnapping. He was sentenced Monday to three years to life in prison for the attempted murder counts and one to 15 years for the kidnapping charge.
Court documents say Alba was upset because he found out his girlfriend might be pregnant and she was uncertain who the father was. The woman reported that he took her from her home and drove her to the overpass, where he put a rope around her neck and tried to strangle her.
Firefighters found Alba and the victim and held him until Utah Highway Patrol troopers arrived.
