MAPLE BLUFF, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker says it’s reasonable to charge more to enter and camp at Wisconsin parks.

He says in an Associated Press interview on Wednesday that he sees the question of raising park fees and vehicle registration or gas taxes as “two completely different issues.”

Walker has been steadfastly opposed to tax or fee increases to pay for roads unless there’s a corresponding cut elsewhere. But Walker says park and camping fees are different because people have a choice over whether to go to parks or camp there.

But he says people don’t have the same choice about buying gas or traveling on roads.

Walker says he “probably won’t include all” of the fee increases floated by the state Department of Natural Resources, but it’s reasonable to “have some adjustments.”
