MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Assembly Speaker Robin Vos says he doesn’t see “some huge problem that needs to be solved” with Wisconsin’s recount law.
Vos said in an interview Tuesday with The Associated Press that “the system worked as intended” following the presidential recount in Wisconsin that concluded last week.
That recount was requested by Green Party candidate Jill Stein, who finished with just fraction of the overall votes cast. Under the law, she is required to pay the full cost of the recount.
But some lawmakers have said they’d like to change the law to bar candidates with no viable chance of winning from forcing a recount.
Vos says his main concern is that taxpayers aren’t on the hook for longshot recounts. He says the $3.5 million Stein paid is good for the state’s economy.
