NEW YORK (AP) - New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says police are reinforcing various Christmas market locations around the city in the wake of the attack in Berlin, Germany that killed 12 people and wounded nearly 50 people.

Although there are no specific threats to the city, the Democratic mayor said Tuesday he was asking truck rental agencies to be on alert for any suspicious rental activity.

In Monday’s attack, German police say a truck appeared to have been driven intentionally into a popular Christmas market filled with tourists and locals. The perpetrator is still being sought.

De Blasio said the NYPD’s Critical Response Command and Strategic Response Group were deployed within an hour or two after the attack, which he called a “very sad reality.”
