BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore’s housing commissioner is stepping down.
Mayor Catherine Pugh announced in a statement Tuesday that she has accepted the resignation of Paul Graziano. Pugh says she now plans to operate the two parts of Baltimore Housing, the Department of Housing and Community Development and the Housing Authority of Baltimore City, as two entities with separate leadership.
During the mayoral campaign, Pugh said she wanted to replace Graziano, who has held the post for 16 years.
Baltimore Housing came under fire after public housing residents’ complaints of poor conditions and a now-settled lawsuit that alleged that some maintenance workers refused to make repairs unless tenants engaged in sex acts.
Deputy Housing Commissioner Michael Braverman will serve as interim commissioner during a national search. Graziano’s resignation is effective Jan. 6.
